When I’ve been trading at markets around the country I am often asked if I have a plain, vanilla sock pattern. One that is simple to knit and unembellished by lace or cables or texture. I have had to say no to so many people now that it’s about time I started saying yes.
Chassis is a unisex sock pattern and is worked in the round, from the toe up, with a gusset, short row heel turn and heel flap design that I’ve perfected over a few sock designs. The pattern is written for three sizes and the beauty of knitting from the toe up is that you can choose how long you’d like your socks to be. You can just keep on knitting as long as your yarn allows.
Supplies
• Up to 100g sock yarn (choose something with at least 20% nylon for the extra longevity).
• 2.25mm (US 1) knitting needles, or needles that allow you to achieve gauge. These instructions are written for magic looping on an 80-100cm needle, but you can use your preferred method of sock knitting.
• two stitch markers.
• darning needle.
Gauge
15 sts x 22 rows = 5cm in stocking stitch unblocked.
Finished size
This pattern is written for three sizes: small, medium and large. They will fit feet with an approximate circumference of 21cm, 23cm and 26cm, respectively.
